Genetic Journeys is a suspenseful story about an adult adoptee who took a genetic test to help plan DNA-based ancestral travel, and wound up finding the biological father she never thought she’d know, and the healing she didn’t know she needed.
About the Story
Award-winning travel podcaster Lisette Austin (aka Jet Set Lisette) is a multiracial adoptee who never considered searching for her biological family until outside forces changed her mind. She initially found her White birth mother, only to encounter closed doors, and the reality that she probably would never know her Black birth father. That was the end of the story. Or so she thought. When DNA testing became commercially available decades later, Austin found herself on a wild detective adventure filled with remarkable twists and turns, frustrating dead ends and unbelievable surprises.
This fascinating family story explores timely issues around adoption, consumer genetic testing and ethnic identity. The drama will unfold as Austin takes readers through the journey of finding her biological father, and will include interviews with family members, adoption experts and the childhood friend who helped “crack the case.” Although not officially a “how to” or educational book, readers will learn about adoptee issues and resources, consumer DNA testing’s impact on families, genetic and traditional genealogy, multiculturalism, Black American history and identity, and redefining family. Readers will also be inspired to solve their own life mysteries and reclaim their ancestral roots.
